Trip Report - SAW-Ted - Thorpe Park 2009

The 2009 Coastering Season got off to a great start at Thorpe Park. We all met up at the entrance at 9.30AM, had a chat to each other, got issued with our RCCGB wristbands which was used for early entry into the park and our ERS later on. It was great to see so many new members present and on their very first club trip. We were let into the park about 10 minutes earlier than the public which enabled us to walk down to their new ride SAW - The Ride which is well themed around the films. The engineers were still carrying out image
their tests when we arrived and the public were also beginning to arrive. After the engineering tests the park had to carry out their own tests so we didn't get to ride SAW until around 11AM. Death had a hedge trimmer strapped on his arm, and soon had an appointment with Security! Most of the club members were in the queue for this ride takeover. The ride wasn't to disappoint, themeing was great but you do need to have seen the SAW films to understand it all. All those that waited patiently got a ride on SAW and very soon the queues got up to 3 and a half hours long!!

We were then due to takeover Stealth but unfortunately the ride was still down from it's winter maintenance. It did do some test runs later in the day but wasn't available for anyone to ride. We then started to explore the rest of the rides in the park, Nemesis Inferno, Colossus, X:\ No Way Out and The Flying Fish! Dan decided he was too dry and stood in the wet zone of Tidal Wave and got soaked! We did the other flat rides including Vortex and Rush and some more coaster riding before heading back over to SAW for our first ever ERS on the ride. Unfortunately the ride had been experiencing some teething troubles during the day and had just broken down prior to our ERS. There were still members of public in the queue but this dropped back to about 30 minutes by the time the ride was back up and running. An hour later than planned our ERS comenced and everyone had a great time, some members hadn't queued for the early morning takeover so were experiencing the ride for the first time and they were in for a treat! After the ERS we met up with the boss Darren and thanked him for our day and ensuring the ERS took place and right at the end the club members told him Thorpe Park needs some Woooooooooood!! After this it was off home, a great start to the coastering season was had by all and all the new members had a great time. Now we were all looking forward to the next trip, the legendary Blackpool Bash. See you all there!!
