Trip Report - Blackpool Bash 2008

The Coastering Season got off to a great start with our Annual Blackpool Bash, a special one being the club's 20th Anniversary. On Friday members from all over the UK converged on the seaside town of Blackpool, got settled into their B&B's then it was off to The Pleasure Beach for a night of entertainment in the Paradise Room. Nev opened the show with Graham asking him to put his image
wrist in a small Guillotine! Obviously it wasn't going to harm him but as with previous years Graham can be seen to be a bit nervous. After this Club Member John Garland was on stage with his puppets and this was followed by The Phoenix International Illusionists. They managed to get club favourite Ryan Hackett up and placed his head on a bigger guillotine, you could see the sweat! This was followed by a surprise act, the legendary Jimmy Cricket. This was the final act of the night and afterwards it was back to our B&B's in readiness for the main reason of the trip, Riding Rollercoasters.

image Up early on Saturday it was back to The Pleasure Beach for our first ERS of the day on The Big One. This was followed by an ERS on Infusion. After this we had our own time to spend in the park before heading to the Paradise Room for our lunch and to check out the latest club merchandise. Nev was presented with a 20th anniversary cake during lunch. After lunch we had some more spare time to enjoy the park before our next ERS on The Grand National where the ride is closed to the public for an hour! Again we had some more spare time to enjoy the park before we retired to the Paradise Room for The Black & White Themed Coaster Crazy Show!

Nev & Alan opened the show and this was soon followed by Gary Williams performing "Let me entertain you". Wendy Evans was up next followed by the first game of the night, the Kids "Gopher Game". This was followed unscripted by Dave Wells posing as Anne from Little Britain and Nev was for the first time lost for words! Sarah Booker & Andrea Sheppard were the next act performing "I know him so well" This was followed by our classic Gong Show where ordinary club members try to impress us. Ryan was up first reading his story, Second was Alan as Ken McKenna. Mike Cuff was then playing his musical instrument. This was image followed by The Penetrating Russians and Dan "Walking 500 miles" Death was up and straight off! and then the show was taken aback by the young Libby Williams, following in her fathers footsteps winning the Gong Show. Back to the main event and Kelly Cameron performed "Hot Stuff" This was followed by our last game of the night "Trade or No Trade" where you can win a place on the club's USA Trip.

The Ukraine Krowd were next up and stole the show performing Danzing Lasha Tumbai. It was so well received they had to do an encore and perform again, a show's first! John Ash came up on Stage and thanked Nev for the past 20 years of uniting enthusiasts and also got our second lady up, Christine who really doesn't like the limelight. The night was coming to an end and ended with our club party where we dance the night away before retiring to our B&B's ready for Sunday's events. Sunday started in our B&B with Dave Wells as Anne from Little Britain surprising Nev again presenting him with his breakfast! and again he was lost for words! Back to The Pleasure Beach we went for our first ERS of the day, it was on wood and it was The Big Dipper. Not to be out done we had our second and final ERS of the day on The Avalanche. Those that purchased a Sunday Wristband enjoyed a further day in the park. Some of us explored Blackpool and some returned home. We had a great weekend as usual and then looked forward to our next trip which was across the pond in the USA.
