The Roller Coaster Club of Great Britain - Club History
Fed up with none of his friends sharing the same level of enthusiasm, Andy Hine (Chairman) knew that there must be more coaster enthusiasts in the UK feeling the same way. As the
amount of roller coasters worldwide was going, so it appeared was the interest from riders.
So in August 1988 to unite people with the same passion and enthusiasm, The Roller Coaster Club of Great Britain was created.
The main aims were to unite coaster enthusiasts in a social way, promote amusement parks as fun and safe places and encourage parks and manufacturers to create and install new and
more exciting and daring rides.
It worked !! Now in it's 21st year, and having just celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the Club during 2008 we have over 1000 members from over 17 countries worldwide!
These coaster crazy members go to great lengths to get their coaster fix. The average club member will have ridden over 100 different coasters, spent 8 hours in each park they have
visited and ridden 40 times in one day! Some of the longer term members who have done many trips, especially abroad with the club have now ridden well over 500 different coasters
worldwide!
Since the first club events back in the late 1980's they have remained the key part of being a member. Each year the club organises at least 4 events. These include favorites such
as the 'Blackpool Bash', 'Loopathon', 'MegaMania' and 'Summer Bash'. European trips have also been part of the trip calendar in past years with visits to Port Aventura, Six Flags
Holland and Europa Park to name just a few. In 1993 the club did its first trip to the United States of Amercia, with 47 members enjoying a 10 park tour.
Due to their increasing popularity, the USA trips are now bi-annual events, with more than one coach load of coaster crazy people touring the theme parks of the USA, riding between
80-100 coasters on 16 day trips!
Today, over 20 years on from the beginning, the club still delivers on its original aims of uniting people with passion and enthusiasm for roller coasters in a social way. Trips are
what the club is all about, it's a great way to meet fellow members, share some fun together, ride the coasters, enjoy a beer or two and really find out what the club is about.
